Durban – A would-be robber allegedly wielding a knife was shot and wounded in Durban’s trendy Florida Road on Tuesday night.

Emer-G-Med paramedics arrived at the scene just after 8pm. Spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said paramedics treated a man with a bullet wound in his arm.

“It is believed that the man attempted to rob a member of the public of his cellphone at knifepoint, leading to the shooting,” Van Reenen said.

Police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that the incident took place on June 28, 2022, at 8.30pm, between Florida and Lambert roads Morningside where a 27-year-old man was shot.

“It is alleged that the injured victim was attempting to rob the arrested suspect. The suspect withdrew his firearm and shot the victim in the arm and back. Berea police arrested a 31-year-old man for attempted murder and he will appear in court.”
